accidental mugging
event where a person is greeted by a stranger, misinterprets whatever that stranger says as threatening, and decides they are being robbed. usually occurring at night in a deserted public setting.
‘mugger’: “hi! do you know what time it is? by the way, that’s a really nice watch…”
‘victim’: “do you want my watch!?”
‘mugger’: “well, i suppose…i wouldn’t refuse.”
‘victim’: “just take it!” (runs off)
accidental muggings comprise one-half of one percent of all reported muggings in the contiguous united states.
