bagholder

noun. an investor, usually in the stock market, who’s hanging on to his stock, which has plummeted appreciably.
mo: “kevin, did you dump that piece of sh-t stock yet?”
kevin: “no, i forgot all about it. i closed my eyes for a second and when i woke up from my nap it was down 2 points.”
mo: “oh man, you’re a f-kkin bagholder now. that sh-t’s worthless. why’d you listen to the pumptards?”
kevin: “i know, i know. ugh, i’m losin it….”
an investor who is on the wrong side of a stock for an extended period of time, with the consistent belief that he or she is in fact correctly predicting its direction, despite strong evidence to the contrary. typically, this person loses most or all of his or her money in the process.

the term comes from people in soup lines during the great depression, who held potato bags filled with their only possessions.

a person who is left behind when someone such as a parent, child or spouse leaves town unanownced and leaves behind unsettled responsibilities and/or debts.
yeah i haven’t heard from her in a few days, i’ve heard a lot from her mom and her bill collectors, but not from her. it looks like i’m the bagholder.
