a derivative of “bait and switch,” but in this case it applies to purposely taking advantage of a disliked, but affluent relative or colleague. the relative or colleague is convinced to spend money or donate some resource under false pretenses. this applies especially during the holidays.
kathy used the old bait and scrooge on dad by convincing him to buy tickets for her to go to aruba to join him for christmas break, but then changed the tickets to arrange for her own vacation in jamaica.
