banzai


banzai is a j-panese word almost same meaning with english word “long live the king!!”.
direct translation is “10000 years!”. thus, it can be applied not only to emperors but to anybody anything.

the word was invented about a hundred years ago in the period of meiji emperor era, the era when j-pan opened to the world and rapidly modernized and defeated china and russia at wars.
ever since the word is commonly used by j-panese peopele when some good fortune occured to them in private life to official matters. nowadays the word is nothing to do with emperors.

to americans, banzai became familiar with the scenes of j-panese soldiers shouting when they won battles or when they committed suicidal and kamikaze attakcs. as old j-panese society never allowed j-panese to surrender, they had no choices but die, and the last moment they shout “banzai”.
when somebody marry, people would shout “banzai”.
when accepted by a great university, a student would say “banzai”.

typically an act of self sacrifice rather then to dishonor their army and country by surrendering to the enemy, an action related to bushido.

it is traditional to scream the word before attacking followed by a non-linguistic war cry.

2. slang in video games for a hopeless rush against the enemy, often without any j-panese or bushido affiliation.

j-panese word “banzai” means “10000 years” that is exactly same menaing with “long live the king!” or “long live”.
“ban” means “10000”. “zai” means “years”.

who is banzai?
a j-panese show previously shown on the fox network. it was a gmae show which utilized viewer partic-p-tion by using text messageable answers. the show involved certain stunts with multiple choice results including how many ballons would make a chicken fly, which carjacker will steal a car first, and which of these women is really a man. the show was short lived, but still attracted its loyal viewers.
banzai was a very funny program on fox.
an awesome j-panese show on fox that features such great events as squirrel fishing, baby racing, and the shake hands man.
