a female violinist who is in charge of the entire orchestra, and who outwardsly displays her authority, and opinions to the usually more pompous conductor. she apparently kicked the b-tts off of the other violinists (including male violinists) to get her prominent position.
the concertmistress wore a gorgeous dress, that would have looked better on a more humble soloist.
