acronym for washington dc special flight restrictions area. excessive restrictions on general aviation flight within 60 nautical miles of dc enacted temporarily after 9/11, then made permanent at the end of the bush administration. a useless bureaucratic circle jerk that inconveniences ga pilots while doing little to make us safer from terrorism.
pilot #1: “did you hear that the dc sfra is now permanent?”
pilot #2: “so some politicians got together and had a little circle jerk and decided that my routine ga flight is now a matter of national security based on an imagined threat?”
