a portmanteau of “demonstration” and “distraction”: a demonstration of something intended to distract the audience from a fundamental lack of substance. used often in the pseudo-sciences.
cold fusion researchers performed another public demonstraction of their device, hoping we wouldn’t notice the same flaws we pointed out the last time they did this.
