Detroitist
a person whose love for detroit rises to the level of an idealogical worldview, usually in stark contrast to objective reality.
detroitist is adapted from the andrew sullivan-coined term chrisitianist – a christian whose faith become their political idealogy. christianist was derived from the term islamist used to describe terrorists who attempt to defend their actions with islamic scripture.
joe is a detroitist because, despite an indicted mayor, a bankrupt school system, and double digit unemployment, he believes detroit is a healthy, functional city. he cites the 100 downtown bars and restaurants as proof of the city’s success.
