divine right is one of many excuses used by monarchs of europe to retain thier positions of power. it was claimed that g-d himself put them there. of course, the intellectuals of the day pointed out that monarchies are formed from the most violent band of thugs, made by man, not g-d.
divine right has not been used by the british monarchy for several hundred years.
