the act of unnecessarily controlling every aspect of a persons life so they are how you see fit, rather than how they want to be. not letting people let go of the past and be new people, because it breaks your standards (like throwing out things they don’t like, even when they’re technically theirs, because you find them important). treating people like they’re your toys, especially under the guise of loving them or wanting the best for them. inspired by the story “a doll’s house” by henrik ibsen.
mom won’t let me throw out those balloons from my 5th birthday, even though they’re junk to me. i wish she’d stop dollhousing me!
