fish story – noun – name often given to a exaggerating fisherman (redundant) who always amplifies and embellishes about their fishing adventures and catches.
fish story was telling me about all the salmon, halibut, ling cod and wahoo he caught, he is such an exaggerating liar.
a story told in order to cast the teller in a favourable light. exaggeration is a key part of this.
