follow the speeder

a phenomenon in which other motorists wishing to speed locate a speeder, and all follow him or her in hope that if a police officer is waiting to pull a speeding car over that the only one who will get the ticket will be the person in front. can also be used to give people behind the person in front time to slow down if the person in front spots a patrol car. this will sometimes work, but police will sometimes use ‘speed traps’ to set up several patrol cars down the road so they can pull a pack of cars over.
i was too tired to look for cop cars that day, so when i saw a car speeding along in the left lane at 85 mph with another car close behind, i put on my blinker and played a bit of ‘follow the speeder’.
