futurepop
futurepop is a recently-emerging musical genre growing primarily out of synthpop and ebm. it is characterized by uplifting grandiose synthesizer melodies reminiscent of trance, but almost always has vocals. the genre has few cultural connections to trance, however — its historical roots can be traced mainly to ebm and the related “dark electronics” culture (darkwave; electro-goth), and the lyrics and melodies often retain a darker undertone.
