Gear Bigot
from “gear-head”. a gear bigot is a car enthusiast prejudiced against certain automotive marques because of their country of origin; a domestic car enthusiast who, unaware of the high performance nature of many foreign cars, continues to think if it is not a detroit product, it’s not high-performance; a person who uses derisive terms to refer to foreign cars, i.e., “ricer”, “rice-burner”, “kraut can”, etc.;
a person who doesn’t care once-foreign cars are manufactured in the usa and continues to refer to them as
“imports” but by derisive terms.
he won’t consider buying any car with a foreign-sounding name, even though it’s made in the usa. he’s a real gear bigot.
