the ability to offer empathy (gempathy) or sympathy, whether it be real or sycophantic, to someone who has no problem that actual requires consolation.
jane: “my best friend’s mother’s cousin’s teacher’s dog died yesterday. i’m really cut up about it.”
gempathetic person: “i can understand how hard it must be for you. is there anything i can do to ease your suffering?”
