exploitation of poor people and minorities in the form of price markups on goods and services. for example, higher rates for insurance, usury in loan rates, and “vending machine” level prices from the corner store.
andrew young’s pro wal-mart statements were criticized because of the racial element, but he was simply and correctly talking about one form of the “ghetto tax”.
the price you pay for living in the ghetto, e.g. gettin your motherf-cking windshield smashed by a thrown old spice bottle as you’re driving the car, gettin your bike stolen in broad daylight, etc.
our rent is cheap till you figure in the ghetto tax.
