a phenomenon, occurring in children born to hispanic parents but born and/or raised in the united states, in which a child is taught spanish by his or her parents at a young age but begins to speak only english in school and with friends until the spanish language is largely forgotten.
gabí spoke spanish fluently when she was small, but now that she is in high school she’s so gringofied she can barely communicate with her own abuela!
