another name for hd-dvd, a high-def video disc format standardized by toshiba that is apparently losing to blu-ray, which is another high-def video disc format standardized by sony. both formats use blue laser technology vs. red laser used for cds and dvds.
news junkie: “i read that warner is going blu-ray exclusive, and now all major studios support blu-ray, except for universal and paramount.”

hd-dvd fanboy: “hd-dvd is still cheaper than beta-ray”
blu-ray fanboy: “yeah, but blu-ray has more potential, and more industrial support than your hd-dud”
average consumer: “blu-ray? hd-dvd? f-ck both, i’ll stick with dvd for now”
