Hip Honk


noun. 1. musical genre often referred to as “b-ss and banjo.” it is a combination of hip hop/rap and country western musical styles. etymological root: “hip hop” and “honkey tonk” combination.
although many music historians believe “cotton-eyed joe” to be the seminal hip honk masterpiece, most musicians credit akon’s “locked up” to be the first precursor to this style. toby keith, although primarily a country western musician, is the most prolific hip honk artist.
