what esl (english as a second language) students say when they mix up the expressions “hit the hay” / “hit the sack” with “go to bed”.
esl student: i want to hit the bed now.
native english speaker: why? are you unhappy or something? and why the bed?
to go to bed; sleep; rest. (see hit the hay)
i’m tired so i think i’ll hit the bed.
