Leafs’ Point
in the national hockey league, a team is awarded a single point in the standings when losing the game in overtime or in a shootout (they receive 0 points if they lose in regulation time) while the winning team is awarded 2 points. this single point is sometimes referred to as the “leafs’ point” because it is the primary way that the toronto maple leafs acc-mulate points in the standings due to their low number of regulation wins.
the red wings blew a 3 goal lead and lost to edmonton in overtime, but at least they still picked up the leafs’ point.
