whenever an athlete (particularly a combat sports athlete) suffers a major injury and takes a long time (1 year or more) before returning to compet-tion. made famous by frank mir who shattered his femur shortly after winning the ufc heavyweight championship.
after tearing his acl in october 2008, patrick cote had a nice mir layoff before coming back against alan belcher in may 2010.
