english rock band of the early 70s. lineup: ian hunter, mick ralphs, overend watts, dale ‘buffin’ griffin and verden allen. mainly known for the song ‘all the young dudes’ written for them by none other than david bowie, but also such cl-ssics as ‘roll away the stone’, ‘all the way from memphis’ and ‘honaloochie boogie’. they are the only band that queen ever supported. named after the willard m-n-s novel of the same name.
