nookball
n. a rare phenomenon in basketball whereupon the ball gets wedged in between the side of the rim and the backboard (the nook), resulting in a stoppage of play and a jump ball. usually caused by a horrible shot, the nookball can also be a deadly weapon in a game of “horse.”
