Ontogeny Recapitulates Phylogeny
the phrase my biology teacher used to say to try to make himself look smart.
it is considered false by most professional evolutionists and biologists, however many high school biology text books still offer it as evidence for evolution. it claims that each embryo in its development p-sses through abbreviated stages that resemble developmental stages of its evolutionary ancestors.
it was first proposed by ernst haeckel about a century ago. experimental morphologists and biologists have shown that there is not a one-to-one correspondence between phylogeny and ontogeny.
