permafrust: just when you think you are getting somewhere the world conspires to halt you within sight of the finish line. being flexible, you modify your plan of attack and so does the world. repeat ad nauseum.
similar to the case of a seed trapped under perrmafrost, you are completely snowed under with no obvious way to reach sunlight that you can sense is just on the other side of the ice.
