Photographer

what just about every scene kid and hipster under the age of 25 calls themselves these days. many own canon rebel xtis and rely heavily on cropping and photoshop filters to give their otherwise mundane photos an “artsy” feel. it is also not uncommon to see them wielding lomography cameras (usually a holga, now that they’re sold at urban outfitters) on any given day. typically, these “photographers” cite diane arbus, robert mapplethorpe, or, in the case of those vice magazine devotees, terry richardson, cobrasnake, or richard kern, as major influences, because they couldn’t name any other photographers to save their lives.

the typical subjects of their photographs include, but are not limited to: pidgeon-toed girls in converse that have been drawn on with ballpoint pens and/or sharpies, flowers/weeds growing out of cracks in sidewalks, juxtapositions of objects that typically don’t go together (in one such case, a queen of hearts playing card on a cracked sidewalk), a girl who looks like something out of an american apparel ad smoking a cigarette, decaying buildings, and just about anything that looks “vintage” (ie, yellowing washing machines in a laundromat).
16-year-old dylan took to calling herself a photographer after receiving her canon rebel for christmas, and snapping a few photos of sidewalks in decatur.
“these photos represent the irony of life,” she said.
“and you represent the bane of modern photography,” david replied.
a photographer is a person who takes photographs using a camera. a professional photographer uses photography to make a living, while amateur photographers take photographs for pleasure and to record an event, place or person.

not all photographers are scene or emo kids and not all rely heavily on photoshop or any other photo editing software (such as gimp, lightroom, photobucket, etc) to make their photos look unique.

some photographers actually are photographers, not just “what just about every scene kid and hipster under the age of 25 calls themselves these days.”. some actually shoot photographs for a purpose rather than because it is the “cool” thing to do at the moment. some great photographers are ansel adams, diane arbus, les forrester, lara jade, andrew gransden, joe rosenthal, jill greenberg, and annie leibovitz.

a photographer may stick to one subject area, such as portraiture or nature strictly, but quite a few usually spread their subject areas among many different kinds of photography, such as nature, portraiture, still life, photojournalism, urban & rural, and architecture, just to name a few.
she became a photographer in hopes that she would one day become as great as ansel adams.
person who, despite their best efforts, can’t help but to take:
1.) an enormous amount of photos
2.) a normal amount of photos that always turn out to be amazing
aka: shutterbug

people might pose as a photographer;
in reality they are stalking you when they use that long lens to see inside your window
term often misused to describe a “camera owner.”

photographer should define to individuals using cameras who are dedicated, show some level of skill, talent, or expertise, and usually persist in taking pictures for extended periods of their life.

buy a piano you aren’t automatically a pianist.
buy a plane and you aren’t automatically a pilot.
buy a camera and you’re a photographer.
look i just got this camera at a garage sale, say cheese, i’ll be your photographer.

dude, you’re just a camera owner… take the lens cap off… you’ve got a long way to go before you’re a real photographer.
an artist that takes pictures for a living. photographers are able to get amazing shots through candid, pin-ups, portraits, ect.

people do call themselves photographers even though they take blurry, meaningless, photographs. these people ruin a great form of art. these people normally can not take critiques for their life, even when they ask for it.
person 1: look at this photo i just took! i’m such a good photographer!

person 2: this is horrible! this has no meaning let alone any definition! you are no photographer.

other example

person 1: i’d love some feed back on my photography.

person 2: first off, this picture is way to burry. i can’t tell what’s even in this picture. also the light is extremely yellow, so i’m guessing this was taken inside at night.

person 1: i’m a great photographer!! my mom tells me i’m the best!!

person 3: lolz you asked for critique
the story of the ghost who appears in a mirror when summoned has been told many times in countless variations. children, following the directions provided in the version they heard, have been trying to contact bl–dy mary for at least 30 years now, perhaps for much longer than that. there’s something about the story that makes it almost a tradition at slumber parties and summer camp, or basically anywhere a group of youngsters get together away from the watchful eyes of adults.
trains have been around for 300 years
