an age-old theory describing how a lady or man will cover up their feelings for someone by being overly mean or sarcastic to the person. nb: not to be mistaken with bullies.
tim: mary keeps teasing about how weird my habits are, more than anyone ever has.
john: don’t worry, tim, it’s probably because she likes you.
tim: where did you get that from?
john: it’s simple; the playground theory, my friend.
