1. pomos-xuals (postmodernism s-xuals) are individuals who challenge -ssumptions about gender and s-xuality.

2. a mentality in which heteros-xual women can identify themselves as gay men and gay men can identify themselves as lesbians (or any other combination you can think of).

bobby is such a pomos-xual. he’s a straight man who calls himself a lesbian.
pomos-xuals live life a step beyond the superficial labeling humans define their s-xuality by. one does not necessarily “know” another merely because they are both straight, lesbians or bi; pomos-xuals take this into account, and disregard the orientation label altogether for better unification.

it should be noted that pomos-xuality itself is not a defined s-xuality. on “the list” of orientations to choose from, it is the equivalent of selecting “n/a.”
“i’ll start the day doing homework, eat lunch at in-n-out burger and finish the day at work. confused about which s-xuality i belong? ah, it is great to be a pomos-xual.”

pomos-xual is a term popularized by s-x-positive activists and writers carol queen and lawrence shimel in their 1997 anthology “pomos-xuals: challenging -ssumptions about gender and s-xuality”. people who identify as pomos-xual are attempting to redefine, re-ssess and protest current essentialist-bound labels surrounding s-xual orientation.
“what are you?”…”excuse me?”…”like…what are you?”…”i’m a human being, what does it look like?”…”yeah but…what are you?”…i’m pomos-xual, okay!?!”
a portmanteau of pomo, short for postmodernism, and s-xual, used as a noun—a person who rejects/avoids or does not identify as categorizations of s-xual orientations (e.g., heteros-xual and h-m-s-xual, which define people by relative conceptualizations of their s-xual preferences and their direction of attraction) as a form of ident-ty—and as an adjective, referring to such a person or to the philosophy of pomos-xuality .

john: i do not identify as any s-xual orientations labels.

elisa: but, everyone is either pan/omni , bi, straight, gay, or an as-xual.

john: none of them works for me and i refuse to use a label to define my s-xual preference. i am a pomos-xual.
the label when the word h-m-s-xual, bis-xual, or heteros-xual doesn’t fit the description. pomos-xual is short for post modern s-xual. a label made for those that are beyond the words and labels.
john: “wait, if you’re transgender, does that make you h-m- when you like a guy?”
