pull-it-out-of-your-asstimate
a hasty response to a request for data or information, such as project time-frames or costs, that has the appearance of being relevant and well considered while in actuality being largely baseless and pulled from thin air.
similar to a guesstimate but lacking any forthright element, pull-it-out-of-your–sstimates are typically a response to an unreasonable request or means of quickly escaping an otherwise long, drawn-out and pointless discussion.
even though i haven’t seen any of the requirements or initial design doc-ments the boss wouldn’t stop h-ssling me for a scope of work. i had to give him a pull-it-out-of-your–sstimate of 4 weeks to get him off my case so i could start figuring our what it’s really going to take.
