usually, the offender also pretends to be dead (or completely vanish), in order to disinterest the aforementioned hostile being from them completely leaving their victim in danger.
victim: i was just minding my own business when some rogue with a vicious mountain lion chasing him ran at me and vanished!
victim’s friend: you got rivaled!
