when you want to go out with someone, but you are too awkward to ask them out so you just settle with being their friends, whilst secretly still liking them a little bit. can be caused from social anxiety, or social awkwardness.
cate has a huge crush on derek, but is too shy etc…. to ask him out, so she does her last resort, without ever realizing that derek might have liked her back.
