in 1998, white people went crazy, when puff daddy released his h-t single “it’s all about the benjamins” a common misunderstanding amongst suburban white folk was that in the lyric “now… what y’all wanna do?
wanna be ballers? shot-callers?
brawlers — who be dippin in the benz wit the spoilers.”
puff daddy was using a hip new urban term “shakallers” when in actual fact he was just saying shot callers.
in upper middle cl-ss white communities hipsters would fight amongst each other to decide who was the bigger baller/shakaller. soon enough the word became viral and now can be found used in just every high school kid’s mysp-ce profile that was created in the late 90’s.
