a portmanteau of nhl chief player disciplinarian brendan shanahan and his subsequent enforcement of league rules.
a player is shanabanned following an on-ice incident which is often accompanied by a video explanation of factors contributing to a suspension.
shanaban’s have received league wide support in lieu of increasing concussions and blindside hits as well as multiple criticisms for lack of consistency.
