backyard cricket term meaning “if you hit the ball over the fence you get six runs to your score, but you are out”.
while it is an achievement to hit the ball over the fence, given the risk of jumping over fences, dogs, annoyed neighbours etc etc. it is encouraged to keep the ball in the yard. honour code requires for the batter to retrieve the ball over the fence. (see: unaustralian)
