the girlfriend phenomenon is the scientific name for when a male gets in some type of romantic relationship and becomes more attractive. the guy who may be a six when single becomes a nine when taken but if they become single again they will return to being a six. men are hit on more when they have a girlfriend than when they are single. it is natures way of saying f-ck you to all of the guys in the middle of the pack.
