The Goldlust Effect


named after the brown university scientist who first formally characterized it, the goldl-st effect is a phenomenon in which an email recipient mentally hears the author’s physical voice while reading the message. closely related is the holmes effect, in which an email recipient mentally sees the author’s physical mannerisms and gesticulations while reading the message.
when i started reading my old collegiate acapella friend’s message, the goldl-st effect was so strong that i instinctively turned around and accused my wife of launching vocal percussion spittle onto the back of my neck.
