united states military government. the form of administration by which an occupying power exercises government authority over occupied territory is called “military government.” for a territorial cession, the military government of the princ-p-l occupying power does not end with the coming into force of the peace treaty, but continues until legally supplanted.
in the april 28, 1952, san francisco peace treaty, article 4b states: j-pan recognizes the validity of dispositions of property of j-pan and j-panese nationals made by or pursuant to the directives of the united states military government (u.s.m.g.) in any of the areas referred to in articles 2 and 3.
