town or city that has lost a large economic base; such as a mill or military site. and the wal-mart supercenter seems to become the hub of all economic activity. everyone shops there, works there, eats there, has babies there, etc.
after vandeliegh industries moved out of town, they’ve had a wal-mart based economy over in oniontown.
