extending the metaphor of “surfing” the internet, a wikipedia rip current is the phenomenon of browsing wikipedia and getting side tracked for hours by clicking related links.
i got stuck in a wikipedia rip current, i started reading about the civil war then three hours later i found myself reading about b-tterflies.
