wing chun

wing chun is the name of a system of martial arts developed in southern china approximately 300 years ago. its originator, the buddhist nun ng mui, was a master of shaolin kung fu and used this knowledge to invent a way to take advantage of the weaknesses inherent in the other shaolin systems. this new system was well-guarded and p-ssed on to only a few, very dedicated students. later, the style became known as wing chun, after ng mui’s first student, a woman named yim wing chun. more recently, beginning in 1970, bruce lee, who trained primarily in wing chun but also some other arts, incorporated some of its techniques and ideas into his own jeet kune do. his fame led to international interest in wing chun.

“im skilled in wing chun”
wing chun is a highly effective combat-tested system of self defense, fighting skills and defensive tactics. its principles are both fundamentally intelligent and extremely successful. wing chun emphasizes aggressive tactics, direct/efficient movement and realistic training.

wing chun prepares its trainees in the subjects of self-defense, self protection, fighting and combat skills, as well as skills to defend others. a practical and scientific system, wing chun teaches how to prevent, deal and overcome all kinds of violence and attacks. it has been taught and integrated into the training programs of hundreds of military & law enforcement agencies around the world such as the us navy seals, fbi, cia, french raid and german sek units.

wing chun uses simplicity to deal with the most chaotic situations. it is the preferred self-defense system for close-combat experts throughout the world. based on simple principles and efficient movements, this reality-based system is designed to teach real self-defense from a scientific and logical approach.
i’m looking forward to wing chun cl-ss tonight.
wing chun is an advanced and ultra effective method of self defence. there is a balanced focus on both internal and external development bringing the best from these two, often distinct, ends of the martial arts spectrum.

the style is based on the natural motions of the human body, drawing upon the inherent abilities of our physiology. promoting the use of natural structure and natural movements to defend against stronger opponents. by learning and developing the 13 principles of wing chun, a person learns how to use their body and mind in the most efficient and effective way possible.

by learning how one can and cannot move ones body in relation to an endless variety of situations, whilst remaining calm and controlled, awareness is raised of capabilities and limitations. this enhanced awareness gained by testing and understanding physical boundaries through wing chun training greatly improves abilities in all other physical activities.

wing chun is a traditional southern chinese martial art geared towards survival, the only rule is to win at any cost. the fundamental flaw in comparing wing chun to mma is that the goals are different. wing chun is a continually evolving martial art and it’s logical principles can and are being applied to ground fighting in the modern day. the wing chun principles are able to be applied to any situation mma included. in wing chun the practicioner uses a training method known as chi sao to practice techniques and develop the touch sensitivity and reflexes.

many think that wing chun does not have anti-grappling movements, forgetting that the art was created to defeat the shaolin methods (many of which are grappling, takedown and fighting methods). yes, wing chun does have anti-grappling and anti-takedown movements. in fact, the first and second movements of the wooden dummy are exclusively for that very thing.

in mma all you train for as a fighter is strictly to win fights. while traditional martial arts also has victory as the main pursuit wing chun seeks to cultivate a longer range view: a lifetime of health and well being, emotional control, social responsibility, self respect and respect for others, stress relief and emphasis on healing among other things, as being equal to fighting prowess.

wing chun (traditional chinese: 詠春; pinyin: yǒng chūn; literally “spring chant”), also romanized as ving tsun or “wing tsun” (and sometimes subst-tuted with the characters 永春 “eternal springtime”is a highly effective concept/science based chinese martial art and form of self-defense utilizing both striking and grappling while specializing in close-range combat. wingchun has been popularized by bruce lee as it was his original martial art style taught to him in hong kong by grandmaster ipman.
bruce lee studied the amazing and effective wing chun fighting system for years under master ipman in hong kong long before he became a kung fu movie star.
kung fu style comprised of blindingly fast hand techniques e.g. punching and trapping, occasional kicks, and a remarkable ‘anit-grappling’ technique, used to neutralise grappling techniques.
also known as ving tsun, is a failed martial arts system that claims scientific backing but has none to verify its ‘efficient movements.’ the tendency of wing chunners is to avoid grappling at all costs and most recently many attempts have been made to ‘anti-grapple’ (all of these moves are dependent upon a grappler that doesn’t know how to shoot or lock in a kimura). most recently wing chun has gone from ‘the ultimate style’ to a ‘too deadly for the octagon’ street fighting system. of course, proponents of this seem to lack logic, namely:

if the ‘legal’ moves of a system can’t put down an opponent, how does it expect to manage against other systems that can? and even further, if a system is incapable of being utilized in a one-on-one environment that is, for the most part, no-holds-barred, how can it possibly be utilized against multiple attackers, or attackers with weapons?

any art that claims to take a decade to see any kind of progression is a fraud and utterly pointless.
wing chun fails against muay thai and brazilian jiu jitsu regularly – there’s a reason it has yet to show up in mma.

kung fu is dominated by foolish eastern mysticism and is theory – nothing more.

kung fu guy: if a grappler tries to take me to the ground, i’ll resist and if he does get me down, i’ll eye gouge.

grappler: good luck, my martial art specializes in take downs against resisting opponents and gaining control on the ground – meaning i choose who gets the blunt end of a take down and i choose what happens to that arm of yours when you try to eye gouge. moron.

royce gracie won ufc 1 and 2. wing chun didn’t bother showing up.
