Excess protein in the urine. Some protein is normal in the urine. Too much means protein is leaking through the kidney, most often through the glomeruli. The main protein in human blood and the key to the regulation of the osmotic pressure of blood is albumin. Proteinuria is synonymous with albuminuria.
- Proteins, G
These molecules have been described as “biological traffic lights.” Located inside the cell, G proteins are able respond to signals outside the cell-light, smell, hormones-and translate (transduce) these signals into action within the cell. Alfred G. Gilman and Martin Rodbell shared the 1994 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for “their discovery of G- proteins […]
- Pulmonary valve
One of the four valves in the heart, which stands at the opening from the right ventricle in the pulmonary artery trunk. The pulmonary valve moves blood toward the lungs and keeps it from sloshing back from the pulmonary artery into the heart.
- Pulmonary vein
One of four vessels that carry aerated blood from the lungs to the left atrium of the heart. The pulmonary veins are the only veins that carry bright-red oxygenated blood.
The study and science of the anatomy, physiology, and pathology of the lungs.
The rhythmic dilation of an artery that results from beating of the heart. Pulse is often measured by feeling the arteries of the wrist or neck.
