How to study when tired? In today’s article some useful tips to do this.
How do you manage to study when you are so tired that the only thing you want to do is beach yourself on the sofa and start your favorite TV series and then fall asleep with your mouth open?
I think this question touches us all and is asked many times.
So how to solve this problem? Today I have 4 tips for you to implement to improve your method for this purpose!
1. Study Before You Get Tired
Do you know the saying “prevention is better than cure”? Well, I would say it can adapt to our situation.
Studying when tired is really hard! Therefore, the ideal, in general, would be to reverse the situation: study before being tired.
When you have a fresh mind, you are more motivated and receptive. So it is much more useful to study a few hours less before dedicating yourself to your other activities, rather than forcing yourself to study after a long and tiring day at work.
Because at the end of the day, after having worked hard, it is sacrosanct to want to rest, relax, and recharge your batteries. Putting yourself on the books and concentrating on studying is the very least of the options.
So what you can do is wake up a little earlier in the morning maybe, in order to have time for some intensive study before dedicating yourself to other commitments.
It’s not easy, I know because it’s about making different habits. But by doing so you could relax after work without guilt and above all without wasting hours of study 😉
In this regard, remember that sleeping and resting are very important, because without the right hours of sleep, what you study does not have the time to settle. Also, for this reason, it would be better if I studied a little more in the morning and not before sleeping!
2. Take Shorter Study Cycles
I have talked to you in many different articles about the study cycles, one of all the one on the guide for the University Study Method.
The cycles I taught you to do include 40 minutes of study, 10 minutes of break, and 10 minutes of review.
But if you are tired there is no point in trying to remember little or nothing, so you can shorten the cycles.
You can use what is called the tomato technique, but be careful: it needs to be revisited!
The original technique you read on the internet says to study for 25 minutes and then take a 5-minute break. But wait a minute: where is the review?
Never skip the review! Without reviewing your study work it will be incomplete, you will not be able to rearrange information in your mind and you will have only half studied.
So follow my version of the tomato technique: 20 minutes of study, 5 of break, and 5 of review 😉
Speaking of tomatoes I got hungry… So speaking of food, please, remember that the sugars in sweets, sugary drinks, and all industrial snacks, are not good at all while you study!
They only contribute to increasing sleepiness and therefore making you even more tired than you already are. So if you really want to nibble something while studying, opt for fresh or dried fruit!
3. Study Mainly on Lecture Notes
When you don’t have a lot of time to devote to studying, having to do other activities, and managing your energy to be able to do everything, it is inevitable to make choices.
In this case, the choice to be made is between studying the book or the notes. The exam manual, for you who have a lot to do, will inevitably remain only a tool to deepen your study, when you have the time and mental energy to dedicate yourself to it.
To prepare for the exam, it is much more convenient for you to focus on the notes taken in class. It counts that it is very possible to pass an exam very well by studying only the notes, without touching the book.
What you have to do is pay enormous attention to what the professor asks and above all, to the answers, he wants to hear. The notes may also have been taken by someone else, the important thing is that they are faithful to what the professor wants.
Knowing by heart the most popular questions in the exam and the answers as the teacher want to hear them, you are already able to pass the exam. After that, all the time you can devote to the book to delve into it is definitely positive.
I don’t give you random advice huh! Just think that when I was studying Economics, I was able to prepare for the Commercial Law exam entirely on the notes bought in the copy shop near the faculty. And I even got 30! Not bad, right?
4. Share the Challenge with Someone Else
This is perhaps the strangest piece of advice, which you did not expect to receive, but it is also the most useful in my opinion.
Sharing your challenges with someone else, someone who puts themselves on the line with their own challenges by sharing them with you gives a lot of motivation!
Once you have set the goal you need to set penalties in case you don’t reach it.
But real penalties, things that would really bother you having to do, punishments for which you must be absolutely motivated not to fail in your challenge.
I do this myself with a friend of mine, and it just so happens that he recently had to serve his sentence for failing one of the goals I set for myself. So I found myself spending a whole night in late November out in the cold on the streets of Turin! Exemplary punishment that makes me want to never fail again.
All jokes aside, sharing your challenges with someone really allows you to hit the targets, although of course there will still be moments in which you will miss the mark because we are not infallible anyway.
Conclusion
These were my tips for studying even when you are tired. So, make use of them and boost your studying efforts. Nonetheless, don’t overextend yourself because you can get burned out! When you’re feeling like you can’t study whatsoever, just get help from an essay writer and get a breather.
