intentional use of the word “buddy” (or other casual term of endearment) to subtly deter s-xual advances from another person; typically used by females concerned that a male friend might be attempting to escape the friend zone.
1: “dude, i don’t think things are goin’ anywhere with julie…”
2: “how come?”
1: “well i just came onto her and she laid some serious buddy-talk on me.”
3: “ohhh, friend zone for you, buddy!”
2: “yeah, b-mmer.”
