buft (v):
a) to joust verbally in matters of obscurity (esp. of a fiscal nature);
b) to obfuscate reality and/or comprehension by means of long-winded and otiose explanation of matters of limited relevance;
c) to grind down a subject, or mill finely (esp. of the sanity of the buftee)
origin/usage (arch): per samuel johnson “arguing with a bufter is like fitting wheels to a tomato: time-consuming and completely pointless”
