vancouver, bc sfu cheerleading team. stunt: one arm lib
athletes who are very stong.
can be male and female.
some are big b-tches
omg can you believe those rumors the cheerleaders are starting.
ok we get it, you hate cheerleaders. officially it is a sport, but i really dont think it is. i dont even understand the point to it, but everyone has to admit when we throw amazing stunts and have perfectly timed tumbling going on througout dances that no one misses a beat on, it looks pretty darn cool.
we practice 10 months out of the year and 3 hours every day after school. in summer we have 2 a days and we are in the weightroom more frequently then the football players.
we have to learn over 300 cheers, around 20 dances and learing to fly the stunts i do is no easy task.
we stand out on the track in montana winter weather but barely feel it because there is to be no stop in the flow of sidelines.
we do not talk or move until we turn around and begin a cheer.
we march and are all perfectly in line and have constant nightmares of 5-6-7-8 again!
the ab workouts, stretches,running and jumps kill and we are always bruised or sore.
we also have to have a b average to be on the squad, and i am proud to say my best friend and i (the two main flyers) have straight a’s.
we cannot wear anything slightly revealing (while our volleyball girls are running around in their bras and spandex)
its not that easy and i can guarentee that most girls couldnt survive it and so many cant handle the responsibility. there are squads out there that are not even close to this level and i know so many cheerleaders are out there who are sl-ts and act like stippers. i hate those kind of girls because they make it harder for a cheerleader like me.
heck you wouldnt even know i was a cheerleader the way i know my nascar facts, probly could tell you more about a car then most people, ride dirtbikes, fish, log with my dad, build houses and am the only female in the advandced shop cl-ss.
enough..
those polson high school cheerleaders know their stuff. maybe its a montana thing…
a cheerleader is most commonly thought of as a brainless blonde bimbo who flirts with everyone etc.
and that may be true of some people, but it is sterotyping.
some people think that cheerleaders must be white but this is also not true.
cheerleading to many people is a sport, just as gymnastics and other aesthetically-pleasing sports are (e.g. ballet, dance).
other people may also think that cheerleading is limited to america. it is not. most schools in the uk for example do not have a cheerleading squad, but there will be opportunities to do this as a sport in the local leisure centre.
other things to note: cheerleaders aren’t always blonde. that is the sterotype. they are not always preppy though i doubt that anywhere would have a punk cheerleading squad…
cheerleading is often used in media. it has featured in:
the princess diaries movie (in a pretty negative form)
bring it on (in a pretty positive form)
the princess diaries book (in a pretty negative form to begin with, then more neutral)
the video for nirvana – smells like teen spirit.
~~~
other reasons for negative impacts on cheerleading: they can make enemies easily. you cannot live without someone hating you, for some reason. these cheerleaders who make enemies then became the sterotype.
~~~
other reasons for positive impacts on cheerleading: popularity. it is a sad sad thing to realise, but many high schoolers in todays world care about nothing more than to be popular, although that is obviously not true for all.
i have found that popularity is based on two things: sports and boyfriends.
to get popular quick, girls subconciously realise these two things. the best sport possible for them is probably cheerleading. it probably gets you a lot more attention and popularity than joining the female soccer team.
then after they get onto the cheerleading team, they get boyfriends. and then … bam! they are popular.
but this doesn’t always work. the girls who don’t make the cheerleading team can become so obssessed in being popular, and when they finally realise it was pointless, they can take the blame out on the cheerleading team, instead of realising that they should be taking the blame out on themselves.
i am not saying that all cheerleaders are wonderful people. popularity can make people very self-centred and unfair. therefore popularity links in with being a cheerleader many many times.
in conclusion, it is unfair to say that cheerleaders are all evil sl-ts, but also unfair to say that they are all wonderful clever people who like doing sport.
just in the same way that it is unfair to call punks evil, depressing people or to say that they are the real people who know exactly what is best.
labels are a way of expression, but have lead to stereotypes everywhere. this makes high school a lot harder for everyone, but there isn’t much you can do about that.
in my final conclusion, cheerleaders are practically another label, however they do extra-sports activities after school and are hated by many.
evil cheerleader:
lily = the evil cheerleader
jessica = girl 1
amy – girl 2
jessica -crying-
amy: jessie! what’s wrong?
jessica: i saw lily kissing my boyfriend behind the school after cheerleading practice. she’s horrible, i can’t stand her.
good cheerleader:
diana = good cheerleader
jessia = girl 1
amy = girl 2
diana: hey guys. how was games?
jessica: it was okay. how about cheerleading practice? i heard someone fell over.
diana: it was mary. but she’s ok, it was only a little graze.
amy: what about the compet-tion you guys are practicing for?
diana: she’ll be fine for it, but i made her rest for a couple of days. if she came back straight away she’d do herself some more injury, and we want her to be okay.
i understand how people would think that cheerleaders are sl-ts and b-tches and whatnot, cus most of them are. being a cheerleader myself, at compet-tions,i have seen girls that fit this stereotype, and it is true that being around them is quite unpleasant, scratch that, i want to f-cking punch them in the f-cking nose. but for the other girls, we are very nice girls who just enjoy dancing, and all those other sl-tty and b-tchy girls are just giving cheerleaders a bad name.
i used to think that cheerleaders were sl-ts, wh-r-s, and stuck up b-tches, cus thats what people led me to belive, but after joining cheer myself, i have come to realize that not all cheer squads are like that. and the only reason why people see cheerleaders hanging out in a clique is because we practice everyday, about 2 times a day, and we spend the most time together, so who else are we gunna be close to? but even then, cheerleaders have a lot of friends outside of cheer. so to all those people who judge cheerleaders just because theyre cheerleaders, just take a second to get to know them before you -ssume the worst.
not all cheerleaders are b-tches, but most are.
a person involved in cheerleading. the sporting activity, while negatively -ssociated with unfavorable male and female personalities, demands rigorous athleticism, spirit, and team-work.
cheerleading shown on espn is an extreme example of the athleticism. while most squads aren’t compet-tive (i.e., co-ed partner stunts, gymnastics, etc.), more work goes into a good squad than just looking cute and sleeping around. (for bad squads, see sh-t.)
however, it seems a high percentage of perky, pretty girls fall under the category of sl-t. unfortunate for the cheerleading world. quite a good deal for the guys.
in defense of cheerleaders, though, there are cool ones out there with real personalities and real goals in life. don’t let the stereotypes fool you.
our male cheerleaders are some of the strongest guys i’ve ever met. and also some of the most horribly perverted and straight guys at that. think about it, though. girls in tight clothing and skirts, and you get to touch them. now that’s a contact sport.
can you believe that our cl-ss valedictorian was a cheerleader? and that her parents’ combined income is only $34,000? i don’t even know.
someone who wears a uniform, which is usually skirt and top, and cheer for thier schools team at games. sometimes go to compet-tions against other squads.
see that girl with the pom-poms? shes a cheerleader.
