Chowing the numbers
to deceptively manipulate poll or vote numbers in order to show strengthened support for your position or opinion.
in 2008, the website of trinity-spadina mp olivia chow of the new democratic party of canada was flooded with numerous votes that contradicted her political position. her website administrator reset the numbers, deleting votes that were contrary to her political stance. a big controversy ensued, and her political staff admitted to tampering the numbers. “chowing the numbers” is used in reference to her last name, chow.
