A measure of the amount of chlorine and other halides in water, especially seawater. Chlorinity is measured in terms of the mass of silver required to precipitate completely the halogens in a 0.3285 kg (0.7227 lb) sample of seawater. It used to be measured in terms of the total mass, in grams, of chlorine and other halides in 1 g of seawater.
