Formaldehyde
Formaldehyde: A pungent gas, with the chemical formula HCHO, used as an antiseptic, disinfectant, and especially today as a fixative for histology (the study of tissues under the microscope).
Formalin is a 37% aqueous (water) solution of formaldehyde.
