Short for Fibre Channel Storage Area Network (SAN).

- Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE)
FCoE stands for Fibre Channel over Ethernet. It solves the problem of organizations having to run parallel network infrastructures for their local area networks (LANs) and their storage area networks (SANs). As a result, they have to operate separate switches, host bus adapters (HBAs), network interface cards (NICs) and cables for each of these networks. […]
- FDDI
)Abbreviation of Fiber Distributed Data Interface, a set of ANSI protocols for sending digital data over fiber optic cable. FDDI networks are token-passing networks, and support data rates of up to 100 Mbps (100 million bits) per second. FDDI networks are typically used as backbones for wide-area networks. An extension to FDDI, called FDDI-2, supports […]
- FDE hard drive
Short for full-disk encryption (FDE) hard drive it is a Seagate technology that performs encryption on the disk drive at the hardware level. The hard drive contains an ASIC chip that is used to encrypt every bit of data as it is written and also decrypts data as it is being read. The drive requires […]
- FDHD
Short for floppy drive, high density, and pronounced fud-hud. FDHD refers to 3½-inch disk drives for Macintosh computers that can accept double-density or high-density 3½-inch floppy disks. FDHDs can also read DOS -formatted floppy disks, which enables Macintosh computers and PCs to share data. FDHD drives are often called SuperDrives.
- FDM
Short for frequency division multiplexing, a multiplexing technique that uses different frequencies to combine multiple streams of data for transmission over a communications medium. FDM assigns a discrete carrier frequency to each data stream and then combines many modulated carrier frequencies for transmission. For example, television transmitters use FDM to broadcast several channels at once.
